Anew Review.

Title - Anew.
Series - Archers of Avalon, #1.
Author - Chelsea Fine.
Publisher - Acacia Publishing.
Rating - Five Stars.
Theme Song - Darkness Descends - Matthew Popieluch.

SynopsisTwo years ago, Scarlet awoke in the forest alone, afraid, and unable to remember anything. Lost and confused, her life was a mystery...until she met a boy with a familiar voice. Gabriel Archer has a voice from her past, and Scarlet's determined to remember why. She immerses herself in his life only to discover he has a brother he's kept hidden from her: Tristan Archer. Upon meeting Tristan, Scarlet's world becomes even more muddled. While she's instinctively drawn to Gabriel, she's impossibly drawn to Tristan--and confused out of her mind. As she tries to piece together her history Scarlet realizes her past...might just be the death of her.

To begin this review I'm going to do something I usually don't which is talk about the author before I talk about the actual book. I've read two books by Chelsea Fine, Sophie & Carter and this book, Anew. I've also interviewed Chelsea Fine. Through all of that I've come to the conclusion that she is the next big time author, the kind of author whose books you'll lose yourself in, covet, and immediately want to talk about with others. In my opinion, she deserves way more credit than she gets for her work, so I plan to do anything I can to make more people aware of her and her books! So, all that I ask is that if you love the premise of this book or my review, please go check it out, and if you continue to love her work then SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!

Now on to the book...

This book starts off two years prior to the actual setting where the main character begins her journey. The main character, Scarlet wakes up in the middle of a forest with no recollection of who she is or how she got there. All Scarlet knows is her name. The story continues two years later by interweaving Scarlet's guardian, Laura who took pity upon the distressed teen and has since then given her everything she could ever want. Scarlet's life is made easier and always that much more intersting with her best friend, Heather. Heather's spunky attitude and effervescent personality colors Scarlet's black and white life. Besides suffering from amnesia, someone from the outside looking in would think Scarlet had it made.

One ordinary day Scarlet comes across someone she knows is from her past, yet she can't recall who he is or where she knows him from. Thus bringing upon the downward spiral the ensues. The mysterious guy, Gabriel Archer is perfect in every single imaginable way right down to his model physique and addictive charm. Scarlet is drawn to Gabriel, his voice, his touch, and the way being in his prescense makes her feel. They begin dating, a normal high school relationship is formed... except the two people involved are far from normal. Scarlet realizes that Gabriel is much more than a part of her present, but indeed a part of her past when she meets his twin brother, Tristan. Tristan Archer may look like Gabriel in almost every way, but is the farthest thing away from him personality wise. Tristan has a darker edge to him, a more brooding sense of self. Once Scarlet meets Tristan she becomes more and more aware of what is to come.

There's a curse that bounds the three of them together, forever. Until this curse is broken a lot remains at stake for every single one of them, but for Tristan and Scarlett more than Gabriel. Tristan can feel when Scarlet's near and he aches when she's away. Tristan literally risks his immortal life for Scarlet every single day in an attempt to break the curse, to set all of them free. Gabriel is madly in love with Scarlet which creates one of the most epic love triangles, ever.

The plot, the pacing, and the characters are unbelievable. This book is addictive, unique, and more than impossible to put down. I read it in about a day and continued to reread through my favorite parts, plus parts of the book that I still couldn't wrap my head around. There's a lot of plot building in this book that creates a crescendo of information and emotions the farther along you get. I can't give away too much, but I can say that the ending left me absolutely speechless and in complete need of the next book in the series, like within that minute. However, I'm still left pining for "Awry." All in all, this book is fantastic and exceeded my expectations.

  10. Very descriptive review w/o revealing too much. I love books that keep me thinking about it long after I'm done reading it (Elizabeth Hunter's Elemental Mysteries series is that way for me) and keep me jonesing for the next one.

  12. I loved this book! It was so fresh and I thought that the love triangle was well played. They are hard to do, but this was great. I'm finding it hard to choose who I like better. Gabriel or Tristan?! I don't know! I'm dying to know what happened in the past with Tristan and Scarlet though! Aren't you?! Can't wait for book 2!
