SynopsisBrooke Keller's a high school junior who never spent much time living in one place. She's finally in a town long enough to almost snag the boy of her dreams, until her life is threatened by a fanged man in his attempt to kidnap her. Brooke begins a dangerous journey to find out who is after her and how to stop them. Thrown into a world with powerful and prejudiced vampires, Brooke must tap into the side of herself that she never knew existed, at the risk of losing her life in order to save it.

Descended By Blood is an easy yet complex read. The storyline is fantastic and it keeps you guessing throughout the entire story. There was a great amount of suspense building and it explores almost every emotion through the main character, Brooke Keller.

Brooke is in high school and is tricked into thinking that's she's just you're average teenager. Brooke has a best friend, Kaitlynn, who she's inseperable with. Brooke has the ultimate crush on Jaren, a popular and extremely gorgeous guy. Brooke is on top of the world when her and Jaren start dating and their relationship blossoms quickly. Brooke and her mother have constantly moved around, never really staying in one place for more than a few years. Brooke feels at home for the first time in her life and she yearns to make that feeling permanent.

After a few strange happenings, Brooke begins to think that she's being followed, but she also thinks that thought is ludicrous. All doubt is shattered when Jaren's new apartment is overtaken by the same mysterious guy Brooke believed to have been following her. The nondescript guy ends up trying to get Brooke to go with him because he's been sent to locate her, but Brooke wont budge. A terrible fight breaks out between all three of them. Jaren gets hurt which leaves Brooke to fight off this guy, but with much surprise Brooke finds fighting comes a lot easier to her than it should. Brooke begins experiencing a great amount of speed, agility and strength she never realized she had until she absolutely needed it.

Brooke ends up killing the guy who came after her, igniting a change within her.

Brooke calls her mom and begins telling her what happened, her mom freaks out and tells her to head to Garwin's, their long time family friend. At Garwin's house, Brooke's mom breaks the news to her that her past is not what it seems. Brooke is a direct descendent of vampire blood, meaning she's half vampire. Brooke freaks out, but at the same time things start falling into place for her. She knows she's in danger and someone's after her, but they're still not sure who. With all things into consideration, Garwin contacts a friend of his for protection.

This friend, Mirko is an immediate temptation to Brooke, and to make matters worse, Jaren begins to shun Brooke out of confusion and panic. Jaren wasn't able to accept Brooke immediately and became completely unable to process the information, so he ends up breaking up with her. To make things even more awkward, Jaren insists on going with Brooke to the safe house, plus he kind of has to for his own protection. Kaitlynn also joins in on the journey because everyone feared that if she didn't she could be targeted.

Once everyone is safe and tucked away at Mirko's compound, Mirko and Brooke begin training together and growing closer as each moment passes. I love the dynamic between the two of them. The characters in this book are brilliant and addicting, I always want to know more about them and how they work. The romance between Brooke and Mirko was intense and raw while the romance between Brooke and Jaren just screamed high school sweethearts.

It's an epic love triangle, but I side with Mirko.

Without giving away too many spoilers, let's just say that the answers lie with Brooke's own family, the family she wasn't even aware she had. There will be a definite fight to the death. Brooke will continue to get stronger, harness her powers and gain confidence through the help of some amazing characters and her loved ones. Brooke shows so much character growth that it's brilliant to read and be a part of. I love the ending of the book too, I'm a sucker for cliffhangers.
