Five Questions with author Ednah Walters!

Introducing Ednah Walters, the writer of "The Guardian Legacy" series. Her first book, "Awakened" has been quite sucessful and she's on the cusp of the second book in the series, "Betrayed." Her world revolved around the ultimate, long time battle of good and evil, Demons and Angels. Her books follow teenage Nephilim, like her main character Lil Falcon and the super sexy, and super powerful male counterpart, Bran. Now, as I am not as familiar with her books as I would like to be, I wanted to do this interview to kind of introduce them and the characters, too. So, here's a mini interview with the very gracious author, Ednah Walters.

1] Your first book in "The Guardian Legacy" is Awakened,
what inspired you to write about a demon slaying sweet sixteener?

Sixteeners go through so much emotionally and mentally it’s fun to write about them. It’s the middle of transition from adolescent to adulthood, the age teens stress about everything—boys, clothes, body image, social standing—rebel against authority, and do adult-like things without the ew factor. You know what I’m talking about—falling in love, making out with a boy. At the same time, it’s the age they can fall in love without the pressure of doing something about it, so I could get away with not writing heavy makeout scenes.

2] Describe your characters:

Sykes’ charming side hides the fact that he’s afraid of disappointing his parents. As an only child and a first-generation Guardian it makes perfect sense. That will become apparent later on.

Remy grew up with four sisters and dealing with them meant watching what he said. As a result, he’s a good listener, but he’s also very cautious, always vigilant about what he says and how he says it. Since we’re never in his head, we don’t get to see this.

Lil has a rebellious streak in her, which can be catastrophic. This becomes more apparent later.

Bran is the most vulnerable of all the teen cardinals. He needs Lil to be able to focus on his humanity, which makes him overprotective. Without her, he’s capable of being very, very bad. I think he’d be a lot more fun as a demon than a Cardinal. We’ll see if he ever switches sides.

3] Bran is definitely a character to swoon over...
how do you think he's unique compared to all the other Young Adult Heartthrobs?

Patch from Hush, Hush didn’t exactly leave a strong impression on me. I guess he’s part cocky and a tease. Jace from TMI is sarcastic which can be funny at times and at times irritating, but he needs to be loved. I think what Bran uniqueness is his unwavering loyalty to those he loves—Lil, his brother and sister, the old man Jethro, Darius of the Brotherhood. Most of YA characters I mentioned are loyal to the heroines in the book. I could be wrong.

4] Was there something or someone who really influenced your characters?

Not each individual people. I combined traits I see in my children and people I know and gave them to the teen Guardians. The exception is Grampa, Lil’s grandfather.

He is totally my oldest brother.

5] The setting is Nephilim-based, what attracted you to writing about them?

I needed characters with powers, and since I didn’t want to write sci-fi with genetic engineering or mutation as the source of their powers, magic with chants or incantations like Harry Potter series, I decided on the children of the fallen angels.

Since my story is centered around the Kris Dagger, coming up with who could have created it and could wield it left very few choices…bioengineered human, witch, or Nephil.

Her first book is "Awakened" [review coming soon]

Synopsis:
Most teens turn sixteen and get the license to drive, but Lil Falcon gets the license to kill demons. Orphaned as a child and raised by an eccentric grandfather, Lil is concerned with surviving high school and is unaware that she's a Guardian-a being with super powers charged with killing demons and protecting humanity. When she meets Bran, a mysterious boy with amazing abilities, his psi energy unlocks her latent powers. But Bran has a secret that can ruin their growing relationship, and the truth she discovers may destroy everything she believes in unless she finds the right balance between love and sacrifice!
And her most recent book is "Betrayed."

Synopsis: Lil has come to terms with her life as a Guardian/demon hunter and the wielder of the Nephilim most powerful weapon. She trains everyday to master her growing powers, gets along with her Guardian trainee friends (most of the time) and cherishes her moments with her human friends. Just when she feels she belongs, her nature-bender father contacts her and warns her about a betrayal by someone close to her. Then Bran, the guy she loves, starts to act strange and one of her human friends acquires a supernatural ability. While Lil struggles find a connection between these three things, she begins to realize that someone is manipulating her and Bran, and will stop at nothing (including hurting those she loves) to lure them to the dark side.

I'm very excited to dive more and more into "The Guardian Legacy" series!
