Passion Review.

  • Book - Passion.
  • Author - Lauren Kate.
  • Rating - Four Stars.
  • Theme Song - "Bring Me To Life" - Evanescence.
  • SynopsisLuce would die for Daniel. And she has. Over and over again. Throughout time, Luce and Daniel have found each other, only to be painfully torn apart: Luce dead, Daniel left broken and alone. But perhaps it doesn't need to be that way.
Luce is certain that something, or someone in a past life can help her in her present one. So she begins the most important journey of this lifetime, going back eternities to witness firsthand her romances with Daniel, and finally unlock the key to making their love last.
Cam and the legions of angels and Outcasts are desperate to catch Luce, but none are as frantic as Daniel. He chases Luce through their shared pasts, terrified of what might happen if she rewrites history.

Because their romance for the ages could go up in flames . . . forever.

"Every single lifetime, I'll choose you. Just as you have chosen me. Forever."

Passion begins with Luce tumbling around in the announcers. She had just jumped into one of the deep, dark abysses leaving all her friends and family behind. The beginning of Passion takes place on the same day Torment leaves off. After fleeing the fight scene, Luce begins to search for answers within the announcers as she travels back in time. Luce is looking for information that only her past lives can provide her with. As Luce begins to take shape in her old lives, she learns more about herself than she ever imagined possible. Each reincarnation of Luce is vastly different than the other but somehow the same. Luce witnesses so much within the first reincarnation that she's determined to travel on at all costs, no matter how tricky or dangerous it can be. Luce finds herself in the middle of wars, arranged marriages and even a scene with William Shakespeare himself. All of it is so vastly interesting, beautiful and haunting. Daniel, of course, tumbled in after Luce, but somehow their present day incarnations don't end up meeting up until the end.

Daniel is, as always a main character in the book, but this time around the book is written in his perspective too. I enjoyed reading what Daniel was thinking as he relived past moments. At first, he is in search of Luce but soon figures out that she must find her own answers, and no matter how badly he wants to, he can't continue to trail her. After those realizations, Daniel takes to observing his past lives and begins to pinpoint exactly where things could have gone wrong. Having to witness Luce die time after time really begins to take its toll on him, but he is lifted up by visiting and talking to the current reincarnations of himself within the story. The one thing that was constant throughout the story was definitely the love shared between Luce and Daniel. No matter how many people question it, it doesn't falter, not even when they begin to question it themselves. Daniel wasn't the only one trailing Luce; Cam, Shelby and Miles were too. They were all trying to find her, save her and bring her back to the present but were effectively eluded. Cam is the only one who ever really got close, but still ended up meeting with Daniel rather than Luce more than once.

I found Passion to be one of those books that are incredibly hard to walk away from. I mean, the information could seem far fetched to some people, I get that, but as powerful a character as Luce is, I somehow found it all quite believable. I mean, believable as in Young Adult Fiction "believable." Also, while Luce stumbles through announcer after announcer, a traveling companion in the shape of a small, grungy gargoyle takes shape. Bill, the gargoyle with far too much knowledge of Luce and Daniel appears disgusting but comes off as harmless, so Luce begins letting him tag along. Bill ends up helping Luce out of various situations and not obstructing any information whatsoever. He almost had me fooled as he did Luce, but I thoroughly knew their was something off about him. I can't say too much, of course, but the final showdown leaves nothing to the imagination. It was the cliffhanger among all cliffhangers, I must say. Rapture, please hurry!!

  5. I also knew there was something off with Bill. Hmm... he was all over the place, coming and going. Btw, I loved the fact that we got to see some of the scenes from Daniel's point of view. It made me love the book even more. Great review!
